The Renaissance Woman of Style Autumn Collection | Refined Everyday Living

There is something wonderfully comforting about stepping away from everyday responsibilities, even if only for a weekend to experience a cozy Autumn escape.

The familiar rhythm of life can become so demanding that we occasionally forget the importance of slowing down, changing our surroundings, and allowing ourselves to enjoy the smaller pleasures.

As autumn settles into its final weeks and the festive holiday season draws closer, I found myself craving exactly that: a change of scenery, a little relaxation, some cozy autumn fashion, and quality time with my daughter.

And so, we packed our bags and headed across the border from our lakeside community in Ajax, Ontario, to Buffalo, New York, for our annual autumn road trip.

Following our lovely getaway to St. Catharines last year, I wanted to continue this little mother-daughter tradition, exploring somewhere different while embracing the warmth, beauty, and quieter pleasures of the season.

You can read about last years cozy Autumn escape to

St. Catherines, Ontario below 🍂

What followed was a comforting combination of affordable style discoveries, hotel relaxation, autumn skincare, delicious food, and a few early thoughts about the holidays ahead.

Whether you're planning a weekend escape, updating your cold-weather beauty rituals, or simply looking for inspiration to make everyday life feel a little more intentional, I hope this autumn journal inspires you.

The Art of Dressing Comfortably Without Sacrificing Style

One of my favourite aspects of autumn dressing is finding that beautiful balance between comfort, practicality, and personal style.

For a road trip, especially one involving several hours in the car, I want clothing that allows me to relax without feeling underdressed.

This year, I discovered some rather lovely pieces at Giant Tiger, a Canadian retailer that continues to surprise me with its affordable seasonal fashion.

For our drive to Buffalo, I chose a soft, pearly-white, high-neck fleece pullover paired with relaxed chocolate-brown drawstring trousers.

The combination was wonderfully comfortable, with enough structure and thoughtful colour coordination to feel polished rather than overly casual.

My autumn travel outfit formula:

  • A soft, high-neck fleece in a flattering neutral

  • Relaxed chocolate-brown trousers

  • A beautiful burgundy handbag for depth and contrast

  • Delicate gold-toned earrings for a touch of feminine polish

What I particularly appreciate about this combination is its versatility. These pieces can easily transition from a long car journey to a casual lunch, a little shopping, or an afternoon spent exploring.

You don't need an entirely new wardrobe to create a refined travel look. Sometimes, the most appealing outfits are simply the ones that bring together beautiful colours, comfortable fabrics, and a few carefully chosen accessories.

A Little Colour Intelligence Makes All the Difference

As an Eclipse Winter woman who also incorporates elements of the Ember Autumn palette, I am particularly mindful of how my wardrobe colours work together.

The deep chocolate trousers, pearly-white fleece, and burgundy accessories created a combination that felt appropriately seasonal while remaining connected to my individual colour identity.

This is something I encourage women to consider when shopping for new clothing.

Rather than purchasing an item simply because it's trending, think about how its colour, texture, and overall aesthetic relate to your existing wardrobe and personal style.

After all, an elegant wardrobe isn't necessarily an extensive one. It's a wardrobe that feels cohesive, intentional, and distinctly yours.

Affordable Accessories That Elevate an Everyday Outfit

Of course, no Renaissance Woman of Style autumn outing would feel complete without discovering a beautiful accessory or two. And this season, I found two particularly delightful additions.

The Burgundy Handbag: An Unexpected Old Navy Find

During a little autumn shopping, I came across a gorgeous burgundy bucket-style handbag at Old Navy.

Its original price was approximately $50–$60 CAD, but I found it on sale for just $15.99.

Naturally, I couldn't resist.

What drew me to this particular handbag wasn't simply the price. It was the rich colour, the attractive finishing details, and the versatility of its design.

With both shorter and longer carrying options, it works beautifully for casual everyday wear while offering enough space for essentials such as a phone, wallet, and travel documents.

The deep burgundy shade also happens to be one of those wonderful colours that can carry an accessory effortlessly from autumn into the festive winter season.

Paired with cream, charcoal, chocolate brown, or black, burgundy offers a little richness without overwhelming an outfit.

Add a Touch of Feminine Sparkle from Lovisa for a Pre-Holiday Vibe

Another lovely discovery was the jewellery selection at Lovisa.

While browsing after work one afternoon, I found several delicate earrings featuring beautiful stones, pearlescent finishes, and gold-toned details.

I was especially taken with a pair of aquamarine-coloured earrings that added a subtle touch of brightness to my autumn outfit.

I also discovered an attractive multi-pair earring set, originally priced around $20, reduced to approximately $8 at the time of purchase.

They felt wonderfully lightweight during my initial wear, which is something I appreciate, particularly because my ears can be sensitive to certain jewellery materials.

Lovisa is certainly a retailer I'll be revisiting as the festive season approaches.

Beautiful earrings, delicate necklaces, and understated accessories can make thoughtful gifts, particularly for women who appreciate those finishing touches that make an everyday outfit feel special.

An early festive shopping thought: A carefully selected pair of earrings, beautifully presented with a handwritten note, can be far more meaningful than an expensive gift chosen without consideration.

It's a lovely reminder that accessible elegance is about discernment, not excess.

Checking In: Our Cozy Hampton Inn Stay in Buffalo

cozy autumn escape from hampton inn hilton hotels

After a particularly busy journey into Buffalo, arriving at our Hampton Inn felt like exactly the reset we needed.

Having enjoyed our previous Hampton Inn experience in St. Catharines, we decided to return to the hotel brand for this year's getaway.

Our room was bright, spacious, and exceptionally clean, with plush bedding, comfortable pillows, a large television, and a lovely bathroom.

There was even a cheerful little reminder in the room:

It's a good day for a good day.

Sometimes, that's all the encouragement you need to settle into a slower rhythm.

Rather than venturing out immediately, we decided to spend our first evening relaxing indoors.

We ordered dinner, enjoyed a delicious bowl of miso soup, and settled in for a quiet autumn evening.

And really, isn't there something especially comforting about a warm bowl of soup when the weather begins to turn colder?

The hotel also offered complimentary breakfast, a swimming pool, and fitness facilities, making it a practical choice for a short getaway.

For women considering a solo wellness weekend, a mother-daughter trip, or an affordable girls' getaway, accommodations that combine comfort and convenience can make the entire experience feel more restful.

Luxury doesn't always need to involve an elaborate itinerary or an extravagant hotel.

Occasionally, the real luxury is simply having the space to rest.

My Autumn-to-Winter Morning Skincare Ritual Over 40

cozy autumn escape to Buffalo Hampton Inn

One of my favourite moments of our Buffalo getaway was enjoying a slower morning before heading down to the pool.

Dressed in my cozy tartan-and-teddy-bear pyjamas from Giant Tiger, I took the opportunity to share the skincare products that have become part of my autumn-to-winter beauty routine.

As a woman in my 40s, I've become increasingly mindful of maintaining comfortable, hydrated skin as the temperatures begin to fall.

Canadian winters can be particularly unforgiving, especially when cold outdoor temperatures are combined with dry indoor heating.

My preference is for lightweight layers that nourish the skin without leaving it feeling overly heavy.

Here are a few of the products I've been enjoying.

1. Philosophy Purity Made Simple One-Step Facial Cleanser

A gentle cleanse is the foundation of my morning beauty ritual.

Philosophy's Purity Made Simple has become a personal favourite, and I'm already on my third bottle.

What I appreciate most is that it removes the feeling of overnight buildup without leaving my skin excessively dry or tight.

Its formula includes ingredients such as glycerin and meadowfoam seed oil, and the lightweight texture makes it a pleasant way to begin the day.

For me, cleansing should leave the skin feeling refreshed and comfortable rather than stripped. (Shop here)

2. Fresh Sugar Lip Polish

One of the first places I notice the effects of colder weather is my lips.

Dry, flaky lips can make even the prettiest lipstick look uneven, which is why I occasionally incorporate Fresh Sugar Lip Polish into my beauty routine.

I gently massage a small amount over my lips, remove it with a warm, damp cloth, and follow with a nourishing balm.

I particularly love the sweet brown-sugar scent. A little gentle lip care can make an enormous difference when applying your favourite autumn and holiday lip colours.

Use exfoliating products sparingly, however, and avoid scrubbing irritated or cracked lips.

3. Beauty of Joseon Ginseng Essence Water

If there's one product I've particularly enjoyed for lightweight hydration, it's Beauty of Joseon's Ginseng Essence Water.

This Korean skincare essence contains ginseng and niacinamide, and I appreciate how easily it fits into both my morning and evening routines.

The consistency is light and comfortable, making it a lovely addition before applying moisturiser.

I find that incorporating a hydrating essence is an enjoyable way to give my skincare ritual a little extra attention without making it unnecessarily complicated. (Shop here)

4. Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe and Coconut Water

For a refreshing finishing touch during the day, I've been enjoying Mario Badescu's facial spray with aloe and coconut water.

There's something rather lovely about keeping a facial mist nearby, especially on busy days spent running errands, working, or travelling.

A light spritz offers a refreshing sensory experience whenever I want a little pick-me-up. I think of facial sprays as a pleasant addition to a skincare routine rather than a replacement for a proper moisturiser.

5. Dermalogica Phyto Nature Oxygen Cream

During my recent beauty shopping, I received a sample of Dermalogica's Phyto Nature Oxygen Cream.

After trying it for a few evenings, I found myself particularly drawn to its comfortable, lightweight feel.

I prefer moisturisers that leave my skin feeling nourished rather than coated in a heavy layer of product, and my initial experience with this cream was encouraging.

It has been a lovely product to explore as I consider which richer moisturising formulas I want to incorporate during the winter months.

One Important Final Step: Daily Sun Protection

Although my Buffalo vlog focused primarily on cleansing, hydration, and moisturising, there's one essential step worth mentioning here.

Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher remains important throughout autumn and winter.

Even when the temperature drops, ultraviolet radiation can still affect our skin.

For a complete morning routine, sunscreen should be applied after moisturiser as the final skincare step before makeup. (Shop here)

My philosophy for mature skincare is simple: Choose products that suit your individual skin needs, focus on consistency, and enjoy the ritual of taking care of yourself.

Beautiful skin doesn't require a complicated collection of products. Thoughtful care, patience, and attention to your skin's changing needs are far more important.

The Finishing Touch: Cozy Autumn Fragrances

Beyond skincare, fragrance is one of my favourite ways to transition into a new season.

The fragrances we choose can become part of our personal atmosphere, bringing a sense of warmth, familiarity, and feminine polish to ordinary moments.

Recently, I've been enjoying two scents in particular.

Phlur's warm vanilla fragrance has become one of my daytime favourites. Its cozy character feels especially appropriate for the cooler months, when I'm drawn to soft knits, beautiful neutrals, and comforting seasonal rituals.

Zara Violet Blossom, meanwhile, offers a lovely alternative for occasions when I want something a little more romantic.

It's a fragrance I've enjoyed wearing from day into evening, and one I can easily imagine reaching for during the upcoming festive season.

Whether you're meeting a friend for afternoon tea, heading to dinner, or enjoying a quiet evening out, fragrance can be a beautiful finishing touch.

It's also one of those personal luxuries that makes an ordinary day feel a little more considered.

A Little Holiday Shopping Inspiration: The Festive Season Is Almost Here

One thing this autumn getaway reminded me of is how quickly the seasons seem to move.

One moment, we're enjoying crisp autumn afternoons, golden leaves, and pumpkin-inspired comforts. The next, we're beginning to think about Christmas gatherings, festive wardrobes, thoughtful gifts, and the pleasures of preparing our homes for the holidays.

This year, I've been particularly drawn to the idea of shopping more intentionally.

Not necessarily buying more, but choosing better.

A beautiful burgundy accessory, a comforting skincare favourite, an elegant piece of jewellery, or a cozy item for the home can bring so much enjoyment when selected with care.

And with that in mind, I'm delighted to share a little preview of what's coming next to Renaissance Woman of Style.

A Final Reflection: Making Space for the Life You're Creating

cozy autumn escape to Hampton Inn Buffalo

Looking back on our little Buffalo getaway, what I appreciate most isn't any single purchase, meal, or destination.

It's the experience of creating another beautiful memory with my daughter.

It's enjoying the simple comfort of a cozy hotel room after a long drive, finding pleasure in an affordable fashion discovery, taking a little extra time with my morning beauty routine, and allowing myself to enjoy the season without rushing through it.

These seemingly ordinary experiences are part of what refined everyday living means to me.

You don't need a perfectly curated life to enjoy beautiful moments.

Sometimes, all it takes is a little intention, a change of scenery, and a willingness to appreciate what's already within reach.

As we move from the richness of autumn into the sparkle of the festive season, I hope you'll continue joining me here at Renaissance Woman of Style.

There are more beautiful things to explore, from personal style and winter beauty to thoughtful holiday gifting and the comforting rituals that make this season memorable.

Until then, here's to cozy escapes, beautiful discoveries, and cultivating a life filled with style, presence, and intention.

With warmth,
